The joys of renting in San Francisco are myriad: Calling the management company to replace appliances. No mortgage payments. Rent control! With those upsides, however, you lose the freedom to create a space you want to live in.
For now, the tradeoff is worth it. But workarounds are my speciality so we’re embarking on a bathroom makeover. The changes will be small scale but the impact should be big.
The inspiration for the remodel was the San Francisco Athletic Club. It’s a glorified local sports bar but the interior boasts a distinctly retro-masculine feel: deep charcoals, sharp whites, ruddy brass accents and lots of texture.
After an initial paint snafu involving an alarmingly purple hue, the color will be Anchor Gray.
We’ll be ripping out the existing hardware that came with the apartment like flimsy resin shelves and plastic and aluminum knobs. Next, we’ll be diving into a DIY shelf project inspired by Restoration Hardware looks.
Updates to come early next month. Stay tuned!
